Team Relationships and Its Effect on Engagement in Saudi Arabia

Our recent employee survey by Engagesoft revealed that Saudi Arabia employees were most satisfied with their relationships with their teams, scoring an average of 8.3 on a scale of 1-10 (1 being extremely dissatisfied and 10 extremely satisfied). This score is the highest in the Organizational Engagement Pillar, and also higher than the overall engagement score across the Kingdom which scored a 7.4, according to the survey results.

This suggests that employees in Saudi Arabia are highly engaged and happy with the people they work most closely with. We’re highlighting some of the key findings from our survey and also addressing the main sub drivers of the ‘relationship with team’ driver and how they affect the overall engagement scores within an organization.

How can team relationships influence engagement levels within an organization?

The added value of being within a good team is often overlooked. A good, well-oiled team is more often than not the top reason why employees stay within an organization for the long term - relationships are key to business. Knowing your co-workers professionally and personally, having a good working relationship and treating coworkers with respect are all part of good work ethics. When team members achieve this, both employee engagement and productivity within the team increases.

To help identify which actions affect team relationships the most, Engagesoft surveyed employees in Saudi Arabia around the top 4 sub drivers:

Healthy relationships with the team

Score: 8.4 out of 10

Thanks to their skills at building relationships and giving feedback clearly, employees have a healthy relationship with their team. Because of this, employees in Saudi Arabia scored the relationship with their team a 8.4. This is the highest subdriver of the team relationship segment.

Teamwork

Score: 8.3 out of 10

Employees in Saudi Arabia feel supported and assisted by their team members. They scored this sub driver, which represents collaboration and communication, a 8.3 out of 10.

Coworkers competence

Score: 8.3 out of 10

In Saudi Arabia, employees report their coworkers competence as strong, scoring a 8.3 out of 10. Overall, this is a positive score for everyone as it shows employees trust their coworkers enough to be able to share the workload and ask for help whenever needed, reducing stress levels across the board.

Cross department collaboration

Score: 8.2 out of 10

Cross department collaboration has an overall score of 8.2, which is not too far from the other sub-drivers but is nonetheless the lowest score within this category.

Cross department collaboration is a vital part of communication and getting work done at a more efficient and timely manner. Managers and heads of departments need to put in more effort when it comes to collaboration and clearer communication across the organization.

Bottom line

The relationship of employees with their teams is an important metric to keep track of in the workplace and has a significant effect on employee engagement levels. The high scores of the sub-drivers mentioned above puts pressure on HR leaders to ensure their organization's employees score around the same as the rest of the country or even higher.

Based on the Engagesoft benchmark data, employees in Saudi Arabia need better cross department collaboration to happen across the organization. Doing so will lead to a higher engagement rate across the organization. Find out how your organization measures up against your peers and start working on your weaknesses now.
